WHY

The dance community has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has shaped who I am, first as a dancer and teacher, and now as a photographer. CASAVAREZ was built within this beautiful dance community, and I have always believed that when something gives so much to you, you find ways to pour back into it. The CASAVAREZ Costume Scholarship was created to do exactly that—to invest in the next generation of dancers and support them as they continue doing what they love. This year, three dancers from across the country will each receive a $350 scholarship to put toward the cost of a solo costume for the upcoming season. It may be a costume, but we know it represents so much more: the hours in the studio, the work behind the scenes, and the moment a dancer finally gets to step onstage and make it their own.

Applications are open to dancers across the United States.

1. A solo performance video
Send us a video of one of your solos from last season. This does not need to be professionally filmed—we simply want to see you dance.

2. A short introduction video
This is our chance to meet you. Your video does not need to be long, polished, or professionally edited. Speak to us the way you would if we were sitting together in the studio.

Your video submission should include:

Your name and age
Your city and state
The dance studio you train with
A little about yourself
Why you love to dance
What dance has taught you
What receiving this scholarship would mean to you
What you hope to accomplish in the upcoming season

Most importantly, just be yourself!

There is no perfect answer and no perfect video. I want to get to know the dancers behind the applications—their personalities, their stories, and what makes dance meaningful to them.
